How To Maintain & Care For Your Reclaimed Wood Furniture
Care & Maintenance Instructions
We use reclaimed wood not only because it is a sustainable material, but reclaimed wood has extraordinary patinas, grains, character marks and colors. Small nail holes, cracks, splits and old joints give testament to this rich history. Our products have a simple natural finish applied to keep the product looking and feeling as natural as possible. Any spills, stains, little nicks and scratches do blend in and add to the overall character of the wood, especially the case with dining room or kitchen tables. There are simple things you can do to keep your reclaimed wood furniture looking great year after year.
Regular dusting with a soft cloth is recommended. A slightly damp lint-free microfiber cloth can be used to wipe down the reclaimed wood furniture. Make sure the cloth is consistently turned in on itself to make sure dirt is removed not just moved around.
Avoid the use of furniture polish because it leads to a buildup of residue that attracts dust. The furniture will have shallow cracks into which crumbs can fall. Simply using a brush (small paintbrush works best) to extract the crumbs can easily solve this problem.
Each piece is unique since it is made by reclaimed lumber. Expect variations from photos and within complete package. Any variation or defect is acceptable with reclaimed lumber if the product is structurally stable. These are examples of character marks that can appear in reclaimed lumber: mineral staining, color changes, species changes, weathering, discoloration and staining, rough-sawn, cracking, nail holes, loose knots, tool marks, dents, thickness variations, splitting, and mixed grain patterns. If a customer has specific standards for items such as color or texture of wood, those standards need to be very clearly put in writing in advance.
Prevent Heat Spots
Even though reclaimed wood is remarkably heat resistant, hot plates and pans from the oven should have heat pads or trivets underneath as protection to prevent heat spots.
Reclaimed wood furniture should be kept a safe distance from direct heat sources such as fireplaces, heaters, radiators or other high heat sources as the wood can dry out and cause cracks. A temperate and stable environment is best.
Avoid Direct Sunlight
Strong constant sunshine can sometimes change the color of wood from original soft, honey browns to more of a sliver grey color pallet. If you would like to prevent this, simply use curtains or blinds to regulate sun exposure.
Prevent Water Stains
Immediately wipe the entire surface of the furniture equally with a wet cloth(including dry areas). Next, use a dry cloth over the entire surface to absorb water. Use coasters or placemats underneath drinking glasses or coffee cups to prevent water rings from forming.
Purchased a console table with custom dimensions, this exceeded expectations! We chose a beeswax finish which looks perfect, and the wood was finished nicely. Adjustable ends on our hairpin legs are key for our uneven floorboards. The BarnXO team was so easy to work with, and they knew exactly what we needed.
Barn xo has met and surpassed my expectations! High quality reclaimed barn wood furniture at a reasonable price. Great customer service! Jerry helped me find what I was looking for and got it to me fast!
I was very impressed by both the quality of the product and the exceptional customer service here! It was so easy to communicate with the owner and he made sure my custom made table & bench were exactly what I wanted!! It was shipped promptly and was actually super easy to assemble (user-friendly instructions included). Looking to get an entertainment center next!!
These bar stools were the perfect addition to my new kitchen. I really appreciated Kyle's patience with all of my questions and willingness to accommodate the custom height request. The stools arrived on time and to my exact specifications. They were easy to assemble and look great.
I purchases these chairs for my restaurant and I just can say good things about them. Great high-quality product, fast shipment and prompt reaction when I had questions. All in all a very good experience.
Received this table today. It is gorgeous and very well made. Like a work of art. It was packed incredibly well! Took approximately 4 weeks from the day I ordered it. Fairly easy to assemble as the legs are color coded. Getting a hold of the shipping company to find out delivery day was dicey. It was delivered today with no phone call, no notice. Good thing I was home. I live in a gated community and the driver wouldn't have been allowed in. Other than that, I am so pleased to own this incredible piece of hand made furniture made from reclaimed wood.
There are great looking, very sturdy stools. Minor issue...flat, hard seats. Foam pad solved that. The seats and metal frames were shipped from different locations, and the screw holes to join them were slightly off in some places and had to be redrilled. No big deal.
Great communication and fast arrival. We ordered clear coat on wooden seat which was a lot lighter than sample pictured. We should have asked for physical sample and ended up sanding/ staining. Regardless very pleased with the purchase. Highly recommend seller.
